My surgery scheduled for today has been postponed.
There was a miscommunication between me and my surgeon about one of my medications. I am on Coumadin and on the last preop MD appt he wrote down to switch from Coumadin to Lovenox for one week. This is a common practice so I was not surpised, but when I received the packet from his office the week before surgery with my final instructions, it had my list of medications and only listed the Coumadin and said to stop 4 days prior to Surgery and didn't list the Lovenox at all.
The big mistake was not questioning this. The day before surgery I called the office to inform them I had been sick recently and took an additional antibiotic, while I had them on the phone I mentioned the discrepancy and found out that my Surgeon wanted me to have my Primary doctor to prescribe the Lovenox for one week prior to surgery.
So now I am in the process of getting insurance approval for the Lovenox - I guess it is an expensive medication - and once I have that medication, we will reschedule the WLS, probably mid March.
Thank you to everyone for their wonderful thoughts and well wishes and congratulations Paula for your successful surgery.

Your right it is disappointing, but as my wife keeps reminding me, it is all in His timing. There was a reason for this delay and I am sure it will all work out for the best and as you said, at least it is not completely cancelled. Thank you for your support.
I'll let you all know when I have a confirmed new date. So far it is looking like mid March.

Just shows you what different doctors do. I had to be completely off of the blood thinners for 2 weeks before. I take it just to prevent a stroke due to heart arrhythmia's. When I was in the hospital they started the Lovenox and I had to take that for 2 weeks when I got home, then back to the Warafin. It's just a bump in the road for you, it will all be good, just glad that it got taken care of before.
Good luck, Diane

Yeah, I had a couple of strokes back in O4 and 05, so I have been on Coumadin ever since. Considering the type of surgery RNY is, I would not have been surprised if he had stopped it completely. Anyway, it should all work out fine now. And doctors do have their own quirks about what works best for them.
You have such a good attitude, and the gift of perspective! You are right, it's all His timing, and it does give you a chance to lose some more weight, and of course it will make the procedure even more safe, BUT... DANG! I know that I would be having just a bit of a pity party! So sorry for the disappointing news. Mid-March will be here before you know it, though! Hang in there!
